Europeisk förvaltningsrätt i Sverige, 2 uppl.

I verket p

Heart failure after left atrial appendage occlusion : Insights from the LAAOS III randomized trial

Aims: The left atrial appendage (LAA) produces natriuretic peptides and its removal or occlusion might increase the risk of heart failure (HF). We aimed to investigate the incidence of HF after LAA occlusion or removal (LAAO) in the Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion Study (LAAOS III). Methods and results: Patients (n = 4811) with atrial fibrillation (AF) and a CHA2DS2-VASc score ≥2, who were having

Associations between bioaerosols, lung function work-shift changes and inflammatory markers : A study of recycling workers

Objective We investigated associations between bioaerosol exposures and work-shift changes in lung function and inflammatory markers among recycling workers. Methods Inhalable dust was measured with personal samplers and analyzed for endotoxin, bacteria, and fungi (incubated at 25 °C and 37 °C) levels. Lung function (FEV1, FVC) was measured before and after work-shifts and serum concentrations of

Discussion Seminars - A Complement to Online Teaching

After the COVID-19 pandemic, during which teachers developed a lot of online course material, teachers worldwide are challenged with how to combine online teaching with classroom teaching in an efficient way. This paper presents Discussion seminars, a teaching activity that structures discussions clearly, making it easy for students and teachers to follow the discussion. The paper puts Discussion

A global patent dataset of bioeconomy-related inventions

Many governments worldwide have proposed transitioning from a fossil-based economy to a bioeconomy to address climate change, resource depletion, and other environmental concerns. The bioeconomy utilizes renewable biological resources across all sectors and is strongly founded on scientific advances and technological progress. Given that the bioeconomy spans multiple sectors, industries, and techn

Reconstruction of the fluence of extreme solar particle events registered in cosmogenic proxies

Extreme solar particle events (ESPEs) are infrequent yet highly potent manifestations of solar activity. These events result in the production of significant amounts of cosmogenic isotopes (CIs): 10Be, 36Cl, and 14C, which are subsequently deposited in natural stratified archives. Analyzing CI measurements from these archives allows us to assess the particle fluxes during ESPEs. In this study, we

Synchrotron-Based Phase-Contrast Micro-CT Combined With Histology to Decipher Differences Between Hereditary and Sporadic Pediatric Pulmonary Veno-Occlusive Disease

Pulmonary veno-occlusive disease (PVOD) is a lethal variant of pulmonary hypertension. The degree of pulmonary arterial involvement varies. Here, we compare two PVOD patients who were transplanted at 8 years of age, whereof one is a homozygous EIF2AK4 mutation carrier. Tissue was imaged with synchrotron-based micro-CT and the results were compared with clinical data and sectioned tissue was analyz

Association between bullying victimization and obsessive-compulsive disorder : a population-based, genetically informative study

The extent to which bullying victimization is associated with an increased risk of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) has received little empirical attention. This longitudinal, population-based, genetically informative study examined whether self-reported bullying victimization at age 15 was associated with a clinical diagnosis of OCD in the Swedish National Patient Register and with self-report

Transverse dynamics of charmed hadrons in ultra-relativistic nuclear collisions

Transverse momentum pT spectra and anisotropic flow distributions are studied for charmonia and charmed hadrons produced in Pb-Pb collisions and measured with the ALICE detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The investigations are performed within the framework of the Statistical Hadronization Model with the transverse dynamics evaluated using predictions from relativistic viscous hydro

A Fully Automated Segmentation of Knee Bones and Cartilage Using Shape Context and Active Shape Models

In this master's thesis a fully automated method is presented for seg-menting bones and cartilage in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of theknee. The knee joint is the most complex joint in the human body andsupports the weight of the whole body. This complexity and acute task ofthe knee joint leads to a disabling disease called Osteoarthritis among theadult population. The disease leads to loss o

Modulus of continuity and its application in classifying the smoothness of images.

The problems of de-blurring, de-noising, compression and segmentation are fundamental problems in image processing. Each of these problems can be formulated as a problem to find some approximation of an initial image. To find this approximation one needs to specify the approximation space and in what space the error between the image and its approximation should be calculated.Using the space of Bo

SARS-CoV-2 spike protein as a bacterial lipopolysaccharide delivery system in an overzealous inflammatory cascade

Accumulating evidence indicates a potential role for bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in the overactivation of the immune response during SARS-CoV-2 infection. LPS is recognized by Toll-like receptor 4, mediating proinflammatory effects. We previously reported that LPS directly interacts with SARS-CoV-2 spike (S) protein and enhances proinflammatory activities. Using native gel electrophoresis a

Genome-wide association study of prostate-specific antigen levels in 392,522 men identifies new loci and improves prediction across ancestry groups

We conducted a multiancestry genome-wide association study of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels in 296,754 men (211,342 European ancestry, 58,236 African ancestry, 23,546 Hispanic/Latino and 3,630 Asian ancestry; 96.5% of participants were from the Million Veteran Program). We identified 318 independent genome-wide significant (P ≤ 5 × 10 -8) variants, 184 of which were novel. Most demonstrat
