Mouse S-factors based on monte carlo simulations in the anatomical realistic Moby phantom for internal dosimetry
Introduction: Biokinetic and dosimetry studies in small animals often precede clinical radionuclide therapies. As in human studies, a reliable evaluation of therapeutic efficacy is essential and must be based on accurate dosimetry, which must be based on a realistic dosimetry model. The aim of this study was to evaluate the differences in the results when using a more anatomic realistic mouse phan
The importance of peripheral pulses, peripheral oedema and local pain for the outcome of diabetic foot ulcers
In a prospective study, peripheral pulses, claudication, peripheral oedema, and rest pain were evaluated in 314 sequentially presenting diabetic patients with foot ulcers. In the ulcerated limb pedal pulses were found to be present in 44% of the patients, peripheral oedema in 38%, and rest pain in 19%. Twelve per cent had claudication. Presence of pedal pulses was more common in patients whose ulc

Yrast Spectroscopy of 54Cr
High-spin levels in the heaviest stable isotope of chromium were observed following the fusion-evaporation reaction C-12(Ca-48, alpha 2n)Cr-54 at a beam energy of 157 MeV, using the GAMMASPHERE and MICROBALL detector arrays. Numerous yrast and near yrast levels are reported, and previously assigned 7(+) and 9(+) levels are suggested to be 5(+) and 7(+), respectively. The inferred level scheme is c
EM single particle analysis of the ATP-dependent BchI complex of magnesium chelatase: an AAA+ hexamer
BchI, belonging to the AAA+-protein family, forms the enzyme magnesium chelatase together with BchD and BchH. This enzyme catalyses the insertion of Mg2+ into protoporphyrin IX upon ATP hydrolysis. Previous studies have indicated that BchI forms ATP-dependent complexes and it is a member of the AAA+-protein family (ATPases associated with various cellular activities) and it was suggested based on

Light-induced absorbance changes in the fungus Verticillium-Agricinum
Light-induced absorbance changes were investigated in vivo in the fungus V. agaricinum (Link) Corda. There was a broad light-induced absorbance decrease in the blue and near UV with a maximum at 384 nm. An action spectrum indicated that the absorbance changes were due to photo-bleaching of a pigment with an absorption spectrum that was similar to the action spectrum. Neither redox reactions nor en
Measurements on two mould fungi with a calorespirometric method
This paper presents results from dynamic calorespirometric measurements on the two mould fungi Penicillium roqueforti and P. camemberti growing on agar. The measurements were made with two isothermal heat conduction calorimeters connected by a tube. In one of the calorimeters, the sample was placed and the other contained a carbon dioxide absorbent. Pressure sensors were connected to both the ampo

Continuous full filling capillary electrochromatography: Chromatographic performance and reproducibility
Continuous full filling capillary electrochromatography with nanoparticles as pseudostationary phase interfaced with electrospray ionisation mass spectrometric detection was used for reversed phase separations with very high separation efficiency. Several batches of nanoparticles were synthesised and their electrochromatographic performance were evaluated. Different parameters, such as repeatabili
Bladder volume alters cholinergic responses of the isolated whole mouse bladder
Purpose: The isolated bladder expresses autonomous activity, which may contribute to the generation of lower urinary tract sensation or pathophysiology. We evaluated how the effect of a cholinergic agonist on autonomous activity alters with increasing volume and in the presence of substances known to modulate functional bladder capacity. Materials and Methods: The bladder of 22 adult female C57 bl
A deterministic and probabilistic model for oilspill fires in nuclear power plants: a final report to the Swedish Atomic Energy Board
A deterministic and probabilistic model for oilspill fires in nuclear power plant compartments has been developed. It's objective is to predict whether certain components in the compartment will cease to function as a result of the fire and to give the probability of failure. Results are presented for several scenarios in two compartments. The model has been implemented in the computer code OSFIC,
Efficient blind system identification of non-Gaussian autoregressive models with HMM modeling of the excitation
We have previously proposed a blind system identification method that exploits the underlying dynamics of non-Gaussian signals in [Li and Andersen, "Blind identification of Non-Gaussian Autoregressive Models for Efficient Analysis of Speech Signals," Proceedings of the International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP), May 2006, vol. 1, pp. I-1205-1-1208]. The signal mod

Do leukotrienes increase cell viability in human intestinal epithelial cells?
In this preliminary report we present data showing that leukotrienes increase the baseline cell viability in human intestinal epithelial cells and that LTB4 partially reverses the morphological hallmarks of non-necrotic cell death induced by the COX-2 specific inhibitor NS-398. The proposed signaling mechanisms regulating these events are summarized in fig. 3. Please view the work on LT signal tra
Benzodiazepine prescribing patterns in a high-prescribing Scandinavian community
Sales statistics indicate large variations in benzodiazepine consumption between the Scandinavian countries: the current difference between Denmark (highest) and Sweden (lowest) is almost two-fold. There are also large within-country variations: e.g. benzodiazepine sales in the Swedish city of Helsingborg, which is close to Denmark, were at the average Danish level and were the highest in Sweden.
A high-resolution core-level study of Ni-catalyzed absorption and desorption of hydrogen in Mg-films
Ultra-thin magnesium and magnesium-nickel films grown on Mo(110) under ultra-high vacuum (UHV) conditions are hydrogenated at room temperature with atomic H and studied by high-resolution core-level photoelectron spectroscopy (PES). For the Mg-film a layer of hydride is formed at the Mg/Mo interface and a sub-mono layer of hydride is formed at the surface, while an intermediate region remained non
