Automated quality control system for LC-SRM setups.
Selected reaction monitoring (SRM) is emerging as a standard tool for high-throughput protein quantification. For reliable and reproducible SRM protein quantification it is essential that system performance is stable. We present here a quality control workflow that is based on repeated analysis of a standard sample to allow insight into the stability of the key properties of a SRM setup. This is s
The Psychosocial Atmosphere in Community-Based Activity Centers for People with Psychiatric Disabilities: Visitor and Staff Perceptions.
This study investigated how visitors and staff in community-based activity centers in Sweden perceived the psychosocial atmosphere and whether this could be explained by the centers' orientation (work-oriented versus meeting place-oriented centers). Eighty-eight visitors and 37 staff members at three work-oriented and three meeting place-oriented centers participated. The Community-oriented Progra
Plant roles: Site competence bundles and their relationships with site location factors and performance
Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to investigate the strategic role of plants, in terms of the type and level of site competence, the relationship with the strategic reason for location, and the impact on operational performance. Design/methodology/approach - The authors use a survey of 103 Swedish manufacturing plants that belong to global production networks and analyze patterns within this
Tungsten spectroscopy at the Livermore electron beam ion trap facility
The utilization of tungsten spectroscopy for diagnostics of magnetically confined fusion plasmas requires the radiative properties of tungsten ions to be accurately known. At the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, a program to gather spectroscopic data on tungsten ions has been initiated with the purpose to study spectral signatures and identify candidate fusion plasma diagnostics. In this pa
Simultaneous Creation and Recovery of Trap States on Quantum Dots in a Photoirradiated CdSe-ZnO System
We study changes in the steady-state absorption and ultrafast transient absorption kinetics of the photoirradiated CdSe quantum dotZnO system. The changes enable us to reconstruct kinetics of trap creation, which are analyzed with respect to three possible models: trap creation without recovery, trap creation and recovery, and trap creation with an upper limit for trap number accommodated on a qua
Acute Unilateral Vestibulopathy.
Normal vestibular end organs generate an equal resting-firing frequency of the axons, which is the same on both sides under static conditions. An acute unilateral vestibulopathy leads to a vestibular tone imbalance. Acute unilateral vestibulopathy is defined by the patient history and the clinical examination and, in unclear cases, laboratory examinations. Key signs and symptoms are an acute onset

MiR-184 regulates pancreatic β-cell function according to glucose metabolism.
In response to fasting or hyperglycemia, the pancreatic β-cell alters its output of secreted insulin; however the pathways governing this adaptive response are not entirely established. While the precise role of microRNAs (miRNAs) is also unclear, a recurring theme emphasizes their function in cellular stress responses. We recently showed that miR-184, an abundant miRNA in the β-cell, regulates co
Modeling and controlling clarifier–thickeners fed by suspensions with time-dependent properties
A one-dimensional model of the process of continuous sedimentation in a clarifier–thickener unit is presented. The governing model is expressed as a system of two nonlinear partial differential equations for the solids volume fraction and the varying settling velocity of the solids as functions of depth and time. This model extends the well-known model for the dynamics of a flocculated suspension
Aggregate geometry in amyloid fibril nucleation.
We present and study a minimal structure-based model for the self-assembly of peptides into ordered β-sheet-rich fibrils. The peptides are represented by unit-length sticks on a cubic lattice and interact by hydrogen bonding and hydrophobicity forces. Using Monte Carlo simulations with >10^{5} peptides, we show that fibril formation occurs with sigmoidal kinetics in the model. To determine the mec
Molecular and genetic diversity in the metastatic process of melanoma.
Diversity between metastatic melanoma tumours in individual patients is known; however, the molecular and genetic differences remain unclear. To examine the molecular and genetic differences between metastatic tumours, we performed gene-expression profiling of 63 melanoma tumours obtained from 28 patients (two or three tumours/patient), followed by analysis of their mutational landscape, using tar
Intergenerational transmission of young motherhood. Evidence from Sweden, 1986-2009
This study examines the intergenerational transmission of fertility patterns from mothers who had their first birth at young ages to their daughters using nationally representative longitudinal data from from population registers in Sweden, 1986-2009. It tests several mechanisms, including education, labor market attachment, socio-economic background, and family characteristics, that may intervene
Allergic contact dermatitis caused by methylisothiazolinone from different sources, including 'mislabelled' household wet wipes
Long term effects of an intervention in the outdoor environment-a comparison of older people's perception in two residential areas, in one of which accessibility improvements were introduced
Walking and participating in activities outdoors in old age can be restricted both by the physical capacity of the individual and by the maintenance and/or the design of the outdoor environment. The purpose of this paper is to compare frequency of walking and frequency of activity outside the home, reported environmental barriers and valuation of the outdoor environment between two areas, in one o
DFL23448, a novel TRPM8-selective ion channel antagonist, modifies bladder function and reduces bladder overactivity in awake rats.
The transient receptor potential (TRP) melastin 8 ion channel (TRPM8) is implicated in bladder sensing but limited information on TRPM8 antagonists in bladder overactivity (BO) is available. This study characterizes a new TRPM8-selective antagonist (DFL23448) and evaluates it in cold-induced behavioral tests and on bladder function and experimental BO in vivo in rats. DFL23448 displayed IC50 value
Dissimilar bouncy walkers
We consider the dynamics of a one-dimensional system consisting of dissimilar hardcore interacting (bouncy) random walkers. The walkers' (diffusing particles') friction constants ξ(n), where n labels different bouncy walkers, are drawn from a distribution ϱ(ξ(n)). We provide an approximate analytic solution to this recent single-file problem by combining harmonization and effective medium techniqu
Are Knowledge Bases Enough? A Comparative Study of the Geography of Knowledge Sources in China (Great Beijing) and India (Pune)
Using firm-level data collected through a survey in 2008 followed by semi-structured interviews with firms in 2009-2010, this article systematically compares the geography of linkages of the software industry between two regions, one in India (Pune) and one in China (Great Beijing). In contrast to what the literature on knowledge bases and regional innovation systems argues the paper points out to
Relevance of intra- and inter-subband scattering on the absorption in heterostructures
We analyze the absorption lineshape for inter-subband transitions in disordered quasi two-dimensional heterostructures by an exact calculation. The intra-subband scatterings control the central peak, while the tails of the absorption line are dominated by the inter-subband scattering terms. Our numerical study quantitatively assesses the magnitude of the free carrier absorption. The accuracy of di
