Matt Johnson is Associate Senior Lecturer in Yiddish at the Centre for Languages & Literature (SOL). In 2022, he received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago and subsequently taught at the Ohio State University. Matt's research is broadly comparative, with a focus on Yiddish-, German-, and English-language literature and cultural history from the 18th century to the present. At Lund, his teaching focuses on the history of Yiddish literature and culture, as well as on topics with a comparative or theoretical focus. He also has broad research and teaching interests in film, photography, and other media; translation theory and practice; gender studies; and the representation and memory of the Holocaust. Students interested in the newly expanded Yiddish program or who share other research interests are encouraged to reach out to him!
In the Research Portal you can search and find information about all active researchers, units, publications, projects, infrastructures, and more, to get an overview of Lund University research.
