I am a lecturer in English literature. My research interests include Romanticism, the Gothic, medievalism, and Memory Studies. I am particularly interested in approaches to the past in literary texts, the reception of Norse culture in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, and adaptations of Romantic aesthetics in contemporary media.

My doctoral thesis studied the use of Scandinavian themes in British culture between 1760 and 1830, exploring how a broad selection of texts and art engage with the Scandinavian past as a cultural memory for ethnic and cultural identities. I read the selected texts through the framework of Memory Studies, and identified necromancy as an important motif and metaphor for desires to reimagine and reconstruct the Scandinavian past in the present.
