Lund University and the subjects of Chinese and Linguistics have received a major donation from Birgit Rausing. The Birgit Rausing Language Programme will award SEK 15 million over at least ten years. From an organisational point of view, the programme is linked to the Centre for Languages and Literature.
Every year, scholarships are advertised in the subjects of Linguistics and Chinese: postdoc, master and 7–10 minor scholarships in first cycle Chinese. The scholarships in Chinese are destined for stays in Chinese-speaking research environments. The scholarships in Linguistics are destined for stays abroad, for field research or research in a laboratory environment in another country.
The management group for the Birgit Rausing Language Programme appoints the scholarship recipients. The management group consists of two representatives of the subjects of Chinese and Linguistics respectively and professor Lynn Åkesson is the chair.
The Birgit Rausing Language Programme will also organise annual symposia to be held at the Centre for Languages and Literature or at the Centre for East and Southeast Asian Studies. Every year, funds are also destined for an exchange researcher in Chinese and a Chinese language teacher.
