Course 7.5 credits • SVEM39
The course is an elective component of the Master of Arts programme in Language and Linguistics (HASPV). It is also offered as a freestanding course and can be included in a first or second cycle degree.
Course content
The course provides students with an introduction to theories of discourse and methods of discourse analysis that are used to analyse the discourses of society in areas such as politics, working life or education. The focus of the course is on the linguistic aspects of discourse analysis. It consists of both theoretical and practical components. The theoretical component includes presentations of different methods of discourse analysis and discussions of their fields of application. The practical component enables students to execute independent discourse analyses.
The course is an introduction to discourse analysis and is open for all students with a BA degree from humanities or the social sciences. Thus, you will benefit from inspiring cross-disciplinary meetings when studying notions, theories and methodologies of discourse analysis.
