The course discusses word formation from a traditional perspective and also introduces various recent theories in word formation which are concerned with the relationship between word formation and syntax. Word formation in Swedish and other Germanic languages is focused on, but the spectrum is also widened to include word formation in languages in general. In addition, word formation from the perspective of language acquisition is discussed. A large part of the course is spent discussing and analysing problematical examples. The student is expected to carry out a short scholarly study.
