The course gives an overview of the phenomenon of grammaticalisation which is one of the latest theoretical advances made within the discipline. Focus is placed on the similarities in and differences between the semantic and syntactic aspects of grammaticalisation. Grammaticalisation processes are illustrated using examples from several different languages. Various methods of the study of language change are introduced and applied to printed texts as well as digital corpora. The course also includes an in-depth element where the central perspectives of grammaticalisation theory are discussed. The focus is on the development of grammaticalisation, which has taken place within the Nordic languages. Admission Requirements
För tillträde till kursen krävs genomgångna kurser på grundnivå, som innefattar svensk/nordisk språkhistoria och fonetik.
To be eligible for the course requires the completion of courses at foundation level, which comprise of Swedish/Norwegian History of Language and Phonetics.
