Course
Course 7.5 credits • SVEH11
The Centre for Languages and Literature is offering all international students the opportunity to learn some Swedish. The course runs with halftime course load.
Learning Swedish
The course Swedish as a Foreign Language: Beginner's course 1 (7.5 credits) is designed for those who are interested in acquiring and developing Swedish language skills and are interested in taking a language course with a rapid progression.
By the end of the course you will be able to:
- Ask and respond to simple, routine and predictable questions
- Write short sentences with simple phrases about topics that are familiar to you
- Understand when someone speaks slowly about familiar topics
- Read a simple text with high frequency words
- Show some control over basic grammatical structures
- The workload will be as demanding as other regular courses.
Requirements
The course requires basic eligibility for university studies, with the exception of Swedish. To show that you fulfill the requirements, you need to send in your Higher secondary school diploma and transcript. You may also need to send in proof of proficiency in English (corresponding to English course 6 in the Swedish upper secondary school) by means of an internationally recognised test, e.g. TOEFL, IELTS or the equivalent. Read more on the admission website www.universityadmissions.se.
This is a distance learning course using the learning platform Canvas, with online lectures over Zoom. You need access to a computer with internet connection, webcam, and a headset throughout the semester.
The course has an online invigilator monitored exam. During the exam, you must ensure that you have a stable internet connection, a webcam, a microphone, and speakers (headset or earbuds are not allowed during exams). You must also have access to an additional device (preferably a smartphone) with a camera and access to the Zoom app as well as an app for scanning documents. Tuition fee
There are no tuition fees for citizens of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland. Citizens of a country outside of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland are required to pay tuition fees. If you are required to pay tuition fees, you are generally also required to pay an application fee of SEK 900 (approximately EUR 100) when you apply.
