The course illuminates language as a social phenomenon. It deals with language variation, including both social and gender related variations. Various methods of describing these variations and theories of explanation for them are also discussed. The course gives insight into bilingualism and multilingualism. It also introduces conversation analysis.

För tillträde till kursen krävs genomgången kurs på grundnivå som innefattar språksociologi.

To be eligible for the course requires the completion of courses at foundation level, which include Sociolinguistics.
