The course comprises Swedish history of language and style from the era of runic inscriptions to the present day. It discusses language change and various methods of explaining it. A number of works in historical linguistics that apply various theoretical approaches are studied and discussed with a focus placed on both content and method. The student reads a wide selection of early texts, and develops his/her ability to characterise their language in both a comprehensive and coherent manner.

Admission Requirements

För tillträde till kursen krävs genomgången kurs på grundnivå, som innefattar svensk/nordisk språkhistoria.

To be eligible for the course requires the completion of courses at foundation level, which include Swedish/Nordic History of Language.
