The course is offered as an elective course in the Master's (120 credits) programme in Language and Linguistics. It is not offered as a stand alone course.
The course focuses mainly on describing and exploring statistical methods: measures of tendency and dispersion, different types of data visualisation, processing of extreme values, data distribution, data transformation. Teaching consists of lectures, five to seven compulsory practical exercises and a compulsory component in which they conduct their own experiment. Assessment is in the form of a written examination halfway through the course and a take-home assignment at the end of the course.
