The course provides students with specialised knowledge of modern Greek prose and poetry from the late Byzantine period to the present and their relation to societal change. Major emphasis is placed on the perspective on society and gender of the authors in relation to the societal changes in Greece and in the rest of Europe in the19th and 20th centuries. Furthermore, the course includes specialisation in issues of literary studies and the theories and methods of philology.
