The course introduces the Danish language with consideration given to phonology, grammar, syntax, orthography, style, vocabulary, history and idiomatics. This is done by comparing Danish to the Swedish language. Danish language use, language norms and language variations are analysed in an historical, cultural and social context. One part of the course deals with translation from Danish into Swedish with consideration given to theories of translation. Individual contemporary novels and the history of ideas are also studied. Spoken and written communication are also studied, and the students are given the opportunity to communicate in Danish both orally and in writing, and give response to others on their ability to communicate in Danish.

To be eligible for the course requires the Standard Eligibility for study at universities and university colleges in Sweden and Swedish B.
