The course provides in-depth studies of various central areas of linguistics, in order to enable the student to develop an including details of any sub-divisions independent position in relation to theories of linguistics and to be able to follow and assess various theories on an empirical basis. Focus is on the essential elements of phonetics (how speech is produced and understood, different sounds, intonation, stress, etc) and general linguistics (the link between meaning and form via pragmatics, semantics and grammar in a selection of languages from around the world).

För tillträde till kursen krävs LIN A11, Lingvistik, grundkurs
eller motsvarande kunskaper.

To be eligible for the course requires the successful
completion of LIN A11 Linguistics Level 1, or the equivalent.
