The course introduces the subject of Linguistics and its subcategories General Linguistics and Phonetics. The student learns to orient him/herself within the subject, define and use its terminology and in general be knowledgeable of the issues relevant to research in linguistics. In addition the various types and families of languages in the world are discussed. The course includes a number of elements in which students carry out individual small scale research projects involving, among other topics, field studies of native speakers of other languages, studies of children’s language learning and an oral presentation of a poster presenting a linguistic topic chosen by the student.

Admission Requirements

Grundläggande behörighet samt Svenska B och Engelska B.

To be eligible for the course requires the standard eligibility C.1 for studies at universities and university colleges in Sweden (which includes passes in Swedish B and English B from Upper Secondary School), or the equivalent.
