The course provides the students with an overview of the development of the Italian language from its Latin origins to the contemporary Italian of today. Regard is given
to changes in the phonetics, grammar and written structure of the language. Changes in the vocabulary of Italian and reasons behind these changes found in historical events and periods are also studied.
