Course
Course 7.5 credits • FONM24
The central topic of this course is the complexity of speech melody (tone and intonation) both as regards the way it is expressed as well as its communicative and linguistic functions. The course highlights in an advanced manner the relation between the production and the perception of fundamental frequency as well as other acoustic-phonetic correlates of speech melody. Non-phonetic correlates (such as gestures) are also touched upon. Further, the course treats a number of models for speech melody and how they relate to general models of speech production and perception. As a central part of the course, the student is expected to independently carry out an instrumental study on a specific speech-melodic phenomenon.
