This course is obligatory for students in the master's programme in languages and linguistics specialising in English. It can also be an elective course for other students within the same programme.
Students who have finished the BA course in English (ENGK01) can also take this course as a fee-standing course.
The course can be an elective course within ENGX64 (English: Linguistic specialisation (91-120 credits)).
The contents of the course
In this course you will study and discuss the history and development of the English language. You will also discuss language change in general and the reasons behind such change.
The course has a number of scheduled sessions, but you will also be expected to study a lot on your own. At the end of the course you will take a written exam.
After the course
After the course you will have deepened your knowledge of English and the history of the language. This knowledge about language history will help you understand today's English much better. This knowledge can be useful in many situations; for instance, it can make you an even better teacher.
