Course
Course 9 credits • ENGB02
In today's world it is extremely important to be able to use English in speech and in writing, since English is the main language for communication between people with different language backgrounds, at least in our part of the world. In many professions, you are expected to be able to use English. It is also very useful to be able to talk about language and to be able to explain to others what is correct and what is not.
Course description (English grammar and translation, ENGC02)
This is an Internet-based course that teaches you more about general grammar, English grammar, and the grammatical differences between Swedish and English. Because of the fact that differences between Swedish and English play such a big role in this course, Swedish is a formal requirement, and the course is not an option for most exchange students. The only exception is exchange students with native or near-native proficiency in Swedish.
In this course you will need to submit six out of eight written assignments and pass two written exams at the end of the course (one grammar exam and one translation exam). There are no lectures, and all teaching takes place through a learning platform. On the platform, there are various grammar resources and a forum, where you can discuss grammar and translation with your fellow students and your instructor. Sometimes chat sessions are organised, where you can chat with your teacher and your fellow students and ask all the questions that you have.
Please feel free to read the corresponding text in Swedish as well, since it contains a little more information.
After the course (English grammar and translation)
This course makes you better at English in general, since it teaches you about grammar and style and gives you the tools and vocabulary to talk about grammar and the relevant differences between Swedish and English and to spot and explain mistakes in other people's English texts. These are skills that will be appreciated by employers within various fields in which knowledge of English is important. Professionals who benefit from this type of knowledge include communicators, spokespersons, civil cervants, managers, office workers, and people with many international relations.
