The course deals with the emergence of modern Turkey and the comprehensive modernisation projects that started in conjunction with the establishment of the nation state.
Among further objects of study are the development of Turkey at different political levels including nation building, democracy issues, the role of the army in politics, the Kurds, the Cyprus conflict and Turkey’s role in the region and ambitions to become a member of the EU.
