The course provides the students with an overview of the main characteristics of the historical development of Russia from the late 10th century until the present day. Emphasis is on political, social and economic history. The course also covers specific elements regarding culture and the history of ideas in Russian and Soviet history as well as primary strands in the history of ideas and cultural history. The history of Russian film is also discussed. The course consists of the following sub-courses: 1. Introduction to Area Studies - Theory and Method, 5 credits 2. Russian Cultural History, 7 credits 3. Russian Film, 3 credits
